Purpose of the NCBellyDance.Org site

This site was created to be a central clearinghouse of information for middle eastern dance in North Carolina, to be a resource for dancers, students, and audience alike.

My motivation in creating this site is to promote our dance form to the general public and to encourage interaction among dancers throughout the state.

The original idea for this site began out of a personal need - as a dance student, I first needed to find instructors in my area, then later to locate their current class schedules, or find out when the next hafla was going to be.

Rather than go many places to find this information, I decided one day to put it all together on one reference page. The idea then grew from just being a local reference page to encompass all of North Carolina. After all, we North Carolinians like to move around, going to the beaches and the mountains for weekend getaways, attending school at the many universities and colleges, coming up to the state capitol for various events, etc. so why not just have a resource for the whole state?

In creating this site, I discovered many NC belly dance resources that were new to me, and I have had a chance to "virtually" meet many of the dancers around the state that I might not have met otherwise. I look forward to actually meeting you all in person at various workshops and events around the state.
