Beginner tribal fusion belly dance is now offered at Rodrigo Jimenez'
new studio, World Dance Center, in NE Charlotte. The beginner class
emphasizes isolation and movement drills, and we will advance to work on
non-contact lead and follow style that can be danced in groups -- tribal
style, using movements from ATS and other tribal vocabularies where
compatible. The emphasis is on group dynamics, spatial and rhythm skills,
and improvisation rather than choreographed performance. Cynthia has 8
years of belly dance experience in both tribal and traditional Egyptian
styles, as well as several years experience with latin dances and
American ballroom. For ballroom dancers who want to work on more freedom
and range of movement in their hips, ribcage isolation, posture, core
strength, frame, etc. this is a great dance style to cross-train in. The
class is on Thursday evenings at 7:00, at 3116-F Milton Road (near the
intersection of WT Harris and Sharon Amity) weekly except 6/12 and 6/19.
$10 or 10/$80. Classes are also offered at the UNCC Student Activity
Center during term for UNCC students and staff -- contact me for current
schedule information. Questions about the classes? E-mail me at
cynthiagibas@yahoo.com, and look for a new website coming at http://tribes.tribe.net/worlddancebellydance. |

Bellydance, From the Center of Yourself with Gozde in Apex at Harmony Pilates Studio. The ageless mystique of bellydance flows from a graceful partnership between music and physique. A dancer’s range of expression is powerful and integrates movement throughout body, mind & spirit. This course in classic bellydance works with the basics of supporting, stretching and strengthening the body. As we learn technique, we’ll explore how these basics integrate a relationship between the music and our own personal expression. All of this play and learning springs from balanced posture and movement, and the rhythms of the Middle East will enhance our study. We will focus on basic isolations, including slides, lifts and making hypnotic circles with chest and hips. Add in the fluid grace of snake arms, the simmering heat of shimmies, and we’ll be on our way, dancing the Silk Road together. Prerequisite: None Attire: Please wear comfortable clothing that will allow the instructor to easily see posture and body movement. We suggest anything appropriate for Yoga (including athletic bras, close-fitting T shirts, broomstick skirts, stretchy pants). We normally dance barefoot, and if you have a long scarf you can tie around your hips, bring it! $100 per person.

Accelerated Class for Continuing Students In Winter 2009, Fusion FLOW will be co-taught by both members of Sparkle Oasis, Sara and Emily Beaman. As you may already know, "tribaret" is a slang word for the fusion of tribal and cabaret style bellydance; it's possibly our favorite style of all. Every class will include at least two extra fabulous "tribaret" combinations for you to use in your performances. Some of these combos are totally original, while others are inspired by other dancers. Some are sweet and simple, while others include more advanced movement options. Teen Belly Dance with Lalita Holt. This teen belly dance class
targets young ladies who have had little to no prior belly dance
training. This class is for those looking to try something new and
informative, and for those looking to get serious about dance. Students
will learn to stretch properly, and will learn basic belly dance moves,
and combinations. Belly dance is not only a great way to stay in shape,
but it is also a great way to have fun, make new friends and even build
confidence. There may even be opportunities for performance in the
community! Moms, you can take Saphira's class while your daughter is in
the teen class (same time, same day). Instructor: Lalita Holt Saturdays
11-12 noon. Call 336-830-3479 or email her at Teresa3Graces@aol.com or
